Bentley Heath is a small village with its own strong identity, tucked between Dorridge, Knowle and the M42, and plenty of its front gardens are now being asked to hold two or three cars. Our family-run firm is a tarmac driveway company in Bentley Heath that lays new drives, replaces failed concrete and sorts out puddling surfaces for good. If you want a tarmac driveway contractor in Bentley Heath who gives a straight answer and a fixed price, we know the roads around Widney Road, the village shops and the Drum and Monkey, and we finish what we start.
First we dig out to firm ground, lay and compact an MOT Type 1 sub-base, then add a binder course and a hot-rolled surface course for a hard-wearing finish. Edging in block or granite setts keeps the shape crisp, and drainage is built in so water heads to a border or soakaway, not your garage. It is a specification that makes our tarmac drives right for the family homes of Bentley Heath, large or small. Every job is fully insured, guaranteed for 10 years and backed by our 5.0 TrustATrader rating.

Every drive is built from the ground up, so the finish you see is backed by a base that stays level for years.
Full dig-out, a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, then a binder course and a hot-rolled surface course for a smooth, hard-wearing drive.
Where the base is sound, a new tarmac surface over the old one gives a fresh, even finish for less than a full rebuild.
Classic black, or red tarmac for a warmer look. Contrasting bands and borders can mark out parking bays and paths.
A tarmac driveway with a border of block paving, granite setts or kerbs holds the edges firm and frames the house.
Potholes, sunken patches and failed edges cut out square, the base re-compacted and new hot tarmac rolled in flush.
Channel drains, soakaways and falls to a border so rainwater has somewhere to go, plus help with dropped kerb applications.
We are not only tarmac specialists: in Bentley Heath we also lay block paving, install resin driveways, fit dropped kerbs and build patios for back gardens.

Hairline cracks that widen each winter usually point to water getting into the base.
A surface that sheds grit or breaks into holes has worn through its binder.
Standing water means the falls have sunk or there is nowhere for rain to drain.
Growth through the joints and bulges near trees break the surface apart from below.
Sunken areas where the car parks show the sub-base was too thin for the load.
Many Bentley Heath driveways were laid when the houses were built and have since been patched more than once. If the old tarmac is firm with only surface wear, a new top layer is a cost-effective choice. Where cracks run right through, the drive dips by the pavement or extra parking space is needed, a full dig-out lets us widen and rebuild properly.
10 year guaranteeBentley Heath sits at around 125 metres on the Midlands Plateau, inside the Meriden Gap green belt, with the M42 to the west and the M40 to the south keeping it apart from the wider conurbation. That boundary has kept the village compact, and the Knowle, Dorridge and Bentley Heath Neighbourhood Forum was set up in 2015 to plan the three villages' future, so turning a front garden into extra parking is a common request rather than a land grab. When you do, the national rules still apply: more than 5 square metres of impermeable surface needs planning consent unless the run-off is directed to a permeable area within the property. A new vehicle crossing over the pavement on Widney Road or elsewhere in the village needs approval from Solihull Council as highway authority.

What happens after you call, from the first visit to parking on your new drive.
We measure up, check levels and drainage, talk through edging and colour, then send a fixed written quote.
The old surface is removed and a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base is laid to the right depth for your vehicles.
Edging is set on concrete and drains or falls are built in, so the edges stay put and water runs away.
A binder course goes down first, then the hot surface course is laid and rolled to a smooth, even finish.
We leave the site tidy, walk the drive with you and explain when you can park, usually after 24 to 48 hours.

Not sure what you need? 01564 718 416Small cracks can be cleaned, dried and sealed with a tarmac crack filler. Potholes and larger failures need the damaged tarmac cut out square, the base checked and re-compacted, and new hot tarmac laid and rolled level with the surrounding surface. If cracks are spreading across the whole drive, the problem is usually the sub-base, and a professional survey will tell you whether a repair or a resurface is the better spend.
Scrub the moss off with a stiff brush and a mild detergent solution, or use a moss killer made for hard surfaces, leave it for the time stated, then brush and rinse. A pressure washer on a low setting helps, but a high setting can loosen the stones in the surface. Cutting back overhanging branches and improving drainage on shaded edges stops it coming back.
For a family driveway used by cars, we lay a binder course and a surface course, with the finished tarmac usually 30mm to 50mm thick on top of a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base. Heavier vehicles such as vans or motorhomes need a deeper sub-base and thicker layers. The sub-base matters as much as the tarmac, because that is what stops dips and cracks forming later.
Sweep off loose debris first, then scrub stubborn dirt with warm soapy water and a stiff brush. Use a specialist tarmac cleaner or degreaser for stains. A pressure washer on a low setting is fine for algae, but avoid high pressure, which can strip the fine stone from the surface. Regular sweeping and clearing leaves from the edges keeps the drive looking newer for longer.
Our guide for a tarmac driveway in Bentley Heath is £40 to £70 per square metre. What moves it within that range is the depth of dig-out, access for a mini digger and roller, removing an old concrete drive, the edging style, extra drainage so the drive complies with the permeable surfacing rules, and any dropped kerb work through Solihull Council. Every property is different, so call 01564 718 416 for a fixed quote.
You can usually walk on a new tarmac driveway straight away, but wait at least 24 to 48 hours before driving or parking on it. In hot weather the surface stays softer for longer, so avoid turning the steering wheel while stationary and keep car jacks, motorbike stands and skips off it for the first few weeks.
Blot fresh oil straight away with a cloth or paper towel. For older stains, cover the area with an absorbent such as cat litter, sawdust or baking soda, leave it for a few hours and sweep it up. Then scrub with a degreaser made for tarmac, or washing-up liquid and warm water, and rinse well. Avoid solvents such as white spirit, which soften the bitumen.
A tarmac driveway is surfaced with tarmacadam, crushed stone bound together with bitumen and laid hot, then rolled smooth. It is the same family of material used on roads, which is why it copes so well with daily parking. It is quick to lay, low maintenance and usually more affordable than block paving or resin bound surfaces.
A well laid tarmac driveway lasts 15 to 20 years, and often longer with a little care. The biggest factors are a properly compacted sub-base, the right thickness for the vehicles using it, and good drainage. Filling small cracks early and keeping the edges clear of weeds and leaves helps it reach the top of that range.
As a guide, a tarmac driveway costs £40 to £70 per square metre. Larger, open drives with a sound base sit at the lower end. Small or awkward drives, deep dig-outs, old concrete removal, block or granite edging and extra drainage push the price up. A free survey gives you a fixed figure for your own drive.
