Allesley is really two places in one: the old village around All Saints Church and Birmingham Road, and the newer homes of Allesley Park and Allesley Green to the south. Stonetech Paving works as a tarmac driveway company in Allesley for both, laying drives that suit a conservation area cottage as well as a 1980s estate house. If you need a tarmac driveway contractor in Allesley who will measure carefully, dig out properly and finish neatly, we cover Washbrook Lane, Hawkesmill Lane, Browns Lane and the estates either side of the A45, with free advice, planning and design included.
Our method is the same on every Allesley job. We excavate to firm ground, compact MOT Type 1 as the sub-base, lay a binder course and then a hot-rolled surface course to falls that keep water off the house. Block or granite setts give a defined edge, and drainage channels go in where a drive runs towards a garage. These tarmac drives suit the semis of Allesley Park and the detached village homes alike. We give a 10 year guarantee, are fully insured and are rated 5.0 on TrustATrader.

Every drive is built from the ground up, so the finish you see is backed by a base that stays level for years.
Full dig-out, a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, then a binder course and a hot-rolled surface course for a smooth, hard-wearing drive.
Where the base is sound, a new tarmac surface over the old one gives a fresh, even finish for less than a full rebuild.
Classic black, or red tarmac for a warmer look. Contrasting bands and borders can mark out parking bays and paths.
A tarmac driveway with a border of block paving, granite setts or kerbs holds the edges firm and frames the house.
Potholes, sunken patches and failed edges cut out square, the base re-compacted and new hot tarmac rolled in flush.
Channel drains, soakaways and falls to a border so rainwater has somewhere to go, plus help with dropped kerb applications.
For Allesley homes we also lay block paving and resin driveways, build patios and sort out dropped kerbs, so one team can take care of the whole frontage and the garden behind it.

Hairline cracks that widen each winter usually point to water getting into the base.
A surface that sheds grit or breaks into holes has worn through its binder.
Standing water means the falls have sunk or there is nowhere for rain to drain.
Growth through the joints and bulges near trees break the surface apart from below.
Sunken areas where the car parks show the sub-base was too thin for the load.
On Allesley Park, built between the 1950s and 1970s, many original drives have reached the end of their surface, and if the base is still solid a new top course is an economical fix. On Allesley Green, where drives are younger, resurfacing is often all that is needed. In the old village, with mature trees and old boundary walls close by, we usually recommend a full dig-out.
10 year guaranteeMost of old Allesley is a conservation area, set on a low ridge between the River Sherbourne and Pickford Brook, with listed buildings and period houses along Birmingham Road and Washbrook Lane. Here a drive needs to look right as well as work, and setts or a period edge often suit better than plain concrete kerbs. Allesley Park, east of the A45, is mainly mid-century semis with straightforward frontages, while Allesley Green, built in the late 1980s, has open-plan estate drives that people often want widened for a second car. Turning more than 5 square metres of front garden into non-porous paving needs planning consent unless the water is led to a lawn or permeable strip. For a new dropped kerb, the application goes to Coventry City Council as highway authority.
We lay driveways in Allesley and close by in Allesley Green, Allesley Park, Coundon, Earlsdon, Whoberley, Chapelfields and out towards Meriden.

What happens after you call, from the first visit to parking on your new drive.
We measure up, check levels and drainage, talk through edging and colour, then send a fixed written quote.
The old surface is removed and a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base is laid to the right depth for your vehicles.
Edging is set on concrete and drains or falls are built in, so the edges stay put and water runs away.
A binder course goes down first, then the hot surface course is laid and rolled to a smooth, even finish.
We leave the site tidy, walk the drive with you and explain when you can park, usually after 24 to 48 hours.

Not sure what you need? 02476 291 559Small cracks can be cleaned, dried and sealed with a tarmac crack filler. Potholes and larger failures need the damaged tarmac cut out square, the base checked and re-compacted, and new hot tarmac laid and rolled level with the surrounding surface. If cracks are spreading across the whole drive, the problem is usually the sub-base, and a professional survey will tell you whether a repair or a resurface is the better spend.
Scrub the moss off with a stiff brush and a mild detergent solution, or use a moss killer made for hard surfaces, leave it for the time stated, then brush and rinse. A pressure washer on a low setting helps, but a high setting can loosen the stones in the surface. Cutting back overhanging branches and improving drainage on shaded edges stops it coming back.
For a family driveway used by cars, we lay a binder course and a surface course, with the finished tarmac usually 30mm to 50mm thick on top of a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base. Heavier vehicles such as vans or motorhomes need a deeper sub-base and thicker layers. The sub-base matters as much as the tarmac, because that is what stops dips and cracks forming later.
Sweep off loose debris first, then scrub stubborn dirt with warm soapy water and a stiff brush. Use a specialist tarmac cleaner or degreaser for stains. A pressure washer on a low setting is fine for algae, but avoid high pressure, which can strip the fine stone from the surface. Regular sweeping and clearing leaves from the edges keeps the drive looking newer for longer.
Tarmac driveways in Allesley typically cost £40 to £70 per square metre. Where your drive falls in that band comes down to how much ground has to be dug out, access for machinery, whether old concrete must be broken up, the edging you prefer, any drainage, and if a dropped kerb is part of the job. A conservation area frontage edged in setts will price differently from an open Allesley Green drive. Call 02476 291 559 for a fixed quote.
You can usually walk on a new tarmac driveway straight away, but wait at least 24 to 48 hours before driving or parking on it. In hot weather the surface stays softer for longer, so avoid turning the steering wheel while stationary and keep car jacks, motorbike stands and skips off it for the first few weeks.
Blot fresh oil straight away with a cloth or paper towel. For older stains, cover the area with an absorbent such as cat litter, sawdust or baking soda, leave it for a few hours and sweep it up. Then scrub with a degreaser made for tarmac, or washing-up liquid and warm water, and rinse well. Avoid solvents such as white spirit, which soften the bitumen.
A tarmac driveway is surfaced with tarmacadam, crushed stone bound together with bitumen and laid hot, then rolled smooth. It is the same family of material used on roads, which is why it copes so well with daily parking. It is quick to lay, low maintenance and usually more affordable than block paving or resin bound surfaces.
A well laid tarmac driveway lasts 15 to 20 years, and often longer with a little care. The biggest factors are a properly compacted sub-base, the right thickness for the vehicles using it, and good drainage. Filling small cracks early and keeping the edges clear of weeds and leaves helps it reach the top of that range.
As a guide, a tarmac driveway costs £40 to £70 per square metre. Larger, open drives with a sound base sit at the lower end. Small or awkward drives, deep dig-outs, old concrete removal, block or granite edging and extra drainage push the price up. A free survey gives you a fixed figure for your own drive.
