Wellesbourne has grown well beyond its old core around Chapel Street and Bridge Street, and today newer homes off Kineton Road and Warwick Road sit alongside older cottages close to the River Dene. For homeowners wanting a dependable tarmac driveway company in Wellsbourne, Stonetech Paving is a family-run firm that lays new drives and replaces gravel, crazy paving and cracked concrete. Pick us as your tarmac driveway contractor in Wellsbourne and you deal with one team, from the first measure to the final edging stone. Beyond the village, we also work in Barford, Hampton Lucy, Kineton and Lighthorne.
Builder-laid drives on newer estates are not always generous on depth, so in Wellesbourne we usually start again properly. We dig out, lay a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, then a binder course and a hot-rolled surface course for a dense, even finish. Edging in block or granite setts holds the sides firm, and drainage is planned around the fall of each plot. We are fully insured, our tarmac drives carry a 10 year guarantee, and our TrustATrader rating is 5.0.

Every drive is built from the ground up, so the finish you see is backed by a base that stays level for years.
Full dig-out, a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, then a binder course and a hot-rolled surface course for a smooth, hard-wearing drive.
Where the base is sound, a new tarmac surface over the old one gives a fresh, even finish for less than a full rebuild.
Classic black, or red tarmac for a warmer look. Contrasting bands and borders can mark out parking bays and paths.
A tarmac driveway with a border of block paving, granite setts or kerbs holds the edges firm and frames the house.
Potholes, sunken patches and failed edges cut out square, the base re-compacted and new hot tarmac rolled in flush.
Channel drains, soakaways and falls to a border so rainwater has somewhere to go, plus help with dropped kerb applications.
Besides tarmac, we lay block paving, resin driveways and patios in Wellesbourne, and we can build a dropped kerb at the same time so the drive and the road crossing are finished together.

Hairline cracks that widen each winter usually point to water getting into the base.
A surface that sheds grit or breaks into holes has worn through its binder.
Standing water means the falls have sunk or there is nowhere for rain to drain.
Growth through the joints and bulges near trees break the surface apart from below.
Sunken areas where the car parks show the sub-base was too thin for the load.
A resurface is worth considering on Wellesbourne drives that are still firm underneath but look grey and tired. It is not the right answer if the surface has dropped where a van parks every night, if roots from a front-garden tree have lifted it, or if puddles sit against the garage door after rain. In those cases a full dig-out and new base gives far better value over the years.
10 year guaranteeThe village's two historic halves, Wellesbourne Hastings and Wellesbourne Mountford, still show in the older brick cottages near the Dene and around St Peter's Church, where frontages are tight and access can be narrow. Further out, the homes along Kineton Road, Loxley Road and towards the airfield are mostly modern, with wider plots and room for two or three cars. The Dene has flooded parts of Wellesbourne before, so we look closely at falls and outfalls. Planning comes into it too: covering more than 5 square metres of front garden with a surface that does not let water through needs permission, unless the run-off is directed to a permeable area such as a lawn or soakaway. A new dropped kerb onto the road has to be approved by Warwickshire County Council.
Wellesbourne is one of the villages we cover regularly, along with Barford, Kineton, Gaydon and Hampton Lucy, so a survey in CV35 is never a long trip for us.
We also cover these nearby areas with the same team and the same guarantees.
What happens after you call, from the first visit to parking on your new drive.
We measure up, check levels and drainage, talk through edging and colour, then send a fixed written quote.
The old surface is removed and a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base is laid to the right depth for your vehicles.
Edging is set on concrete and drains or falls are built in, so the edges stay put and water runs away.
A binder course goes down first, then the hot surface course is laid and rolled to a smooth, even finish.
We leave the site tidy, walk the drive with you and explain when you can park, usually after 24 to 48 hours.

Not sure what you need? 01789 507173Small cracks can be cleaned, dried and sealed with a tarmac crack filler. Potholes and larger failures need the damaged tarmac cut out square, the base checked and re-compacted, and new hot tarmac laid and rolled level with the surrounding surface. If cracks are spreading across the whole drive, the problem is usually the sub-base, and a professional survey will tell you whether a repair or a resurface is the better spend.
Scrub the moss off with a stiff brush and a mild detergent solution, or use a moss killer made for hard surfaces, leave it for the time stated, then brush and rinse. A pressure washer on a low setting helps, but a high setting can loosen the stones in the surface. Cutting back overhanging branches and improving drainage on shaded edges stops it coming back.
For a family driveway used by cars, we lay a binder course and a surface course, with the finished tarmac usually 30mm to 50mm thick on top of a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base. Heavier vehicles such as vans or motorhomes need a deeper sub-base and thicker layers. The sub-base matters as much as the tarmac, because that is what stops dips and cracks forming later.
Sweep off loose debris first, then scrub stubborn dirt with warm soapy water and a stiff brush. Use a specialist tarmac cleaner or degreaser for stains. A pressure washer on a low setting is fine for algae, but avoid high pressure, which can strip the fine stone from the surface. Regular sweeping and clearing leaves from the edges keeps the drive looking newer for longer.
Tarmac drives in Wellesbourne are priced at £40 to £70 per square metre as a guide. A new estate frontage with good access is usually quicker, while an older cottage drive near the Dene may need a deeper dig, hand work through a narrow gate and extra drainage. Breaking out old concrete, the edging you choose and a new dropped kerb are the other main factors. Phone 01789 507173 and, after a free survey, we will give you a fixed quote.
You can usually walk on a new tarmac driveway straight away, but wait at least 24 to 48 hours before driving or parking on it. In hot weather the surface stays softer for longer, so avoid turning the steering wheel while stationary and keep car jacks, motorbike stands and skips off it for the first few weeks.
Blot fresh oil straight away with a cloth or paper towel. For older stains, cover the area with an absorbent such as cat litter, sawdust or baking soda, leave it for a few hours and sweep it up. Then scrub with a degreaser made for tarmac, or washing-up liquid and warm water, and rinse well. Avoid solvents such as white spirit, which soften the bitumen.
A tarmac driveway is surfaced with tarmacadam, crushed stone bound together with bitumen and laid hot, then rolled smooth. It is the same family of material used on roads, which is why it copes so well with daily parking. It is quick to lay, low maintenance and usually more affordable than block paving or resin bound surfaces.
A well laid tarmac driveway lasts 15 to 20 years, and often longer with a little care. The biggest factors are a properly compacted sub-base, the right thickness for the vehicles using it, and good drainage. Filling small cracks early and keeping the edges clear of weeds and leaves helps it reach the top of that range.
As a guide, a tarmac driveway costs £40 to £70 per square metre. Larger, open drives with a sound base sit at the lower end. Small or awkward drives, deep dig-outs, old concrete removal, block or granite edging and extra drainage push the price up. A free survey gives you a fixed figure for your own drive.
